Đakovački vezovi 2024

Folklore Group Poljanci Participates in the Đakovo Festival in Croatia

The folklore group Poljanci from Wulkaprodersdorf (Vulkaproderštof) participated in this year’s Đakovački vezovi festival, the largest traditional festival in Croatia. This significant international event annually brings together around seventy folk groups with approximately four thousand performers.

For over half a century, this summer festival has attracted tens of thousands of participants and visitors who appreciate tradition, folklore, history, natural beauty, gastronomy, and music. During the festival, the city resonates with well-known Slavonian songs, and the heart of the city beats as one.

Since 1967, the main event has been held every July, preserving the traditions of various regions through song, dance, and beautiful traditional costumes. Visitors can enjoy traditional performances, Slavonian cuisine, musical programs, dance, and other cultural, tourist, and entertainment events. The festival teaches the young and reminds the old of the importance of preserving customs.

No fewer than 40 members of Poljanci of various ages traveled to Croatia. They presented dances and songs from Burgenland. Participating in this festival had been a long-standing wish of the group, which finally came true this summer. After the festival, the folklore enthusiasts spent two more days in Slavonia, visiting Osijek and Vukovar.
